Welcome

Grab a cup of tea or coffee (oh what the heck, get a danish too!) and sit a spell. You might want to grab your notebook and pen because you never know when you will be inspired to write down a quote, or jot down a poem of your own. Words are like that, they take you on a journey and the next thing you know you are breathing life into your own magical world of words.

Essence of Life - A Story Woven in Wordmongering

I lean against her and feel her pain. I feel her unshed tears for the planet. She whispers to me of times gone by, of days that she was worshiped, of days that she was celebrated as life giving. My tears flow down my cheeks unbidden. I listen to her stories, knowing that I may never be able to hear them again. Her voice becomes weaker as I strain to hear every last word.
“Stay with me to the end.” She pleads.

“I won't leave you." I promise.

She is sagging further into the ground, I know it won't be long now. Long, she has lived such a long time but it wasn't meant to be this way. She was meant to live so much longer. If only, so many if onlys too many to count.

My back aches from sitting so long but it is nothing compared to her journey into death. I wonder where her spirit will go. Will it go to this place called heaven, will it go to this place called Summer land, or is there another place, or will she just disappear? My heart aches for her.

I look up placing my hand on her, wishing my essence into her but knowing it is too late to do any good. I close my eyes to rest just a bit. I know it will be some time still though not long.

I dream of her essence swirling with mine; beautiful lights entwining dancing together. It is so beautiful I can barely look upon it; too beautiful to even imagine yet here it is with me, in me, around me. I feel her love, her sorrow. I know that she wishes things could have been different but she knows what's done is done.

My eyes open with tears running down my cheeks. I saw her in her original form, in the days when she was full and strong, with life running through her. My hand traces her lines, loving her with the very fiber of my being.

“Goodbye sweet mother, Goodbye sweet tree of life. I will miss you. I will speak of you and the stories that you have shared with me. I will not let you be forgotten. Your stories will be told by my grandchildren's grandchildren. Go with peace.”

I looked up and I could visibly see the tree sag further as her essence, floating up and out, leaves this place forever. I stand and slowly begin to move around the tree, beginning to dance, remembering our time together. I repeat the stories in my head to never forget. Humming softly I turn and spin around the tree chanting the song of the tree of life. Weaving the mysteries together the air is charged around me. The ground beneath me comforts my feet. The air caressing my body. The sun beats down upon me as I look up high into the sky, I can just barely see a swirl of color, as she leaves this plane entirely.

“Goodbye sweet one you will be missed.”

  1. This makes me think of the time Jim and I went walking alone in old growth woods, and I posed naked in the embrace of a magnificent old tree-soul.

And of the clothing optional Oregon hot springs, running naked through the woods....

Trees seem to lay me bare and make me dance.

Your story moved me the same way.

Thank you for sharing it. I am richer than I was before I read it.

  3. Keep thinking of how a tree spirit might pass on... Like leaves in the wind, or deeper in to the earth? It makes me think (and imagine, and focus on the beauty. Between water and trees... Both are so much a part of the world. Of the cycle. Morgan, are you a fan of Treestory on Facebook? You may love the page. So many lovely images (not just photos) of trees y people who love them.

  5. Quite moving, Morgan. In particular I admire the sentence of the tree sagging, her essence "leaving," a very nice play on words and theme.

    1. What is interesting is that I didn't see the play on words until I reread it. It wasn't intentional but it worked.

      Thank you Karen.

      Peace and Blessings,

  6. Well written! Your story reminds me of how sad it makes me when people treat trees worse than they would a piece of furniture, when they rip one out so they can have a better view, for example...

What a photo - was it digitally altered or does that tree really exist?

    1. Thank you Tui, it has always hurt my heart to go into a forest that has been recklessly decimated. There was a lot of that in Northern California, it was very sad.

Yes I believe the photo was digitally altered but I can't discover who actually created it. I find it all over the web but nobody states or gives credit to the artist. One of the bad things about the web.

      Peace and Blessings,
      Morgan

    1. Thanks for stopping by Brandon. I am having so much resistance to the prompt Enough is Enough that I am going insane with it. I am not giving up though. I am determined to write it by the end of the day.

Thank you for all that you do.

      Peace,

  8. The older the tree, the better. I love the beauty of them, before they die, obviously, although even a fallen tree can be beautiful.

    1. If you have a blog I would love to be able to visit it. I was unable to find one through the Blogger link that you left.

I love trees as well. It is nice that we share the beauty of trees and yes even a fallen tree has its beauty.

      Peace,
