I am looking for a writer that would like to experiment with a co-writing adventure. We would take turns writing a scene then writing another scene off of each other's writing. It could get interesting where the story leads, it could be just fun or it could turn into something that could be published.
If you are interested in exploring such a story writing possibility, you must be willing to:
Let go of the outcome of this story.
Set a specific time to write 30 minutes and edit 30 minutes only per day (5 days a week) they don't both have to be done back to back; this isn't to take up all of our writing time.
Write from 750 to 1000 words for each scene.
Write in the first person. - I would write from my character's point of view and you would write from your character's point of view.
Write a magical fantasy story.
Remember that our writing is not the final draft, allow for imperfections of each other's writing.
Above all have fun with it.

For those that have experienced something like this before I would love to hear how it transpired for you.
Oh, my! Shan Jeniah and I used to write stories this way all the time (we weren't all that good at the time at "letting go of control", but it was over 20 years ago too). We called them response folders... and while not much of what we wrote was (or likely ever could be) publishable, they did inspire great things in us both. You should ask Shan her opinion on them too.

DeleteWell, we were young, and our friendship did get threatened a time or ten....but that had as much to do with the way we were both raised and damaged than the writing....
ReplyDeleteWhat it did, in addition to birthing characters who survive (in highly altered forms) today, and feature in our writings.
And it made us intimately aware of how we each write, which means we both get a reader who "gets" us and where we were trying to go....and what might be lacking when we fall short.
Time has helped us learn to tread carefully on each other's visions and emotions, and to better tolerate criticism.
I think I would LOVE to write with you - something in you feels like deep kinship to me, and I trust those types of intuitions wholly.....

So exciting....I LOVE to play! Even if it never is anything but fun, it will doubtless fees creativity, connection, and evceything else I write. =)
Thanks for sharing your writing journey with Eden. I am glad that it was a positive experience even with the "threatened a time or ten". I am looking forward to this writing experiment. We shall see how it turns out. Hopefully at minimum it will help my writing grow to the next level and do the same for the person that is on the journey with me.
